The peak period for Federal furniture was said to be between the 1780s and the 1820s. The areas that were most captivated by this style were mostly the large port cities on the Eastern coastline such as New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Charleston, and Baltimore. The reason for this was primarily the collection of affluent wealthy families in these cities that had close ties to European culture. And after all, it was this culture and the English furniture designs, in particular of Sheraton and Hepplewhite, that influenced it. Sheraton and Hepplewhite also emerged as influential styles around the same time period. Inadvertently, these cities also became the production and manufacturing centers of this furniture.
As a general rule, though, you can play around as much as you can with the interior of your garden room but the overall look should not deviate significantly or should still find something to tie up with your original house even if it is just the paint or the exterior of the garden room.
Tip #8: A white leather sofa looks really attractive however, the drawback of white color is that it can get stained very easily and you have to work really hard to keep it clean. Even a slight spot of dirt looks quite prominent on it. A paste made of equal quantities of lime juice and tartar is an excellent choice for sofa cleaning. Apply a thick layer of the paste on the stain and keep it untouched for 10 minutes. After that, wipe it off with a damp sponge and you will find that the stains are gone.
Outdoor or patio furniture is either made of wood or wrought iron. The paint to be used for this must be capable of withstanding the atrocities of inclement weather. Heat and humidity cause the paint to crack and peel off. No matter what quality paint you apply on your outdoor furniture, you will invariably have to repaint it every 2-3 years. Latex paint is the best option for patio furniture, as it does not fade easily and can stand extreme weather conditions. Besides, some exterior latex paints also come with mold and mildew resistant formulations, which prevent the growth of mold and mildew on wooden outdoor furniture. Water-based latex paint or an acrylic spray-on are the best options for iron furniture, but avoid using oil-based paints for iron furniture under all circumstances.
