Both cane and bamboo are grown on a large scale in most parts of Asia. They get easily destroyed, and hence they need not to be sent in the landfills. Most of these pieces are handmade, so they don't require machinery and are free from causing pollution. They are also available in numerous styles and designs and are easy on the budget as well.
The first thing about a leather sofa that sets it above and apart from other types of sofas is its inherent durability. Leather itself is just plain tough. Whether it's cow hide, alligator, shark, or some other exotic hide, the resulting leather is simply going to last for years and years. It takes a real beating and just gets more charming as a result. The natural texture and coloration of leather lends itself to longevity because it doesn't show normal use as a defect. Rather, any occasional sign of wear just adds to the charm. This is a generalized statement and, of course, there are exceptions. Some leather is very smooth and will show blemishes. A leather sofa isn't immune to wear and tear, but it does excel what other fabric options will do.
Some people prefer to get the peeling and distressed paint look of antique furniture. This style is suitable mostly for the kitchen and the family room. The usual colors are white, red, green, yellow or blue. First, start with sanding the furniture, and then apply latex paint. When the paint has cured, sand it once again in certain spots to get the worn out look. A slight touch of dilute paint here and there on your painted furniture will improve its visual appeal.
