I was right in the middle of cooking dinner.
Food out. Dishes getting dirty. Trying to set the table.
The girls were arguing in the play room about a toy, and, it being dinner time, I was getting a little tired of saying “mom” things.
The noise level in the play room was rising and so was my heart rate.
Jeremy came around the corner of the kitchen, took me in his arms and said the sweetest thing I could have heard at that moment.
“I love enjoying life with you.”
Enjoying? Me? Right now?
Did he not hear the fiasco taking place in the play room?
I looked up at him and he read my face.
So, he said it again.
“I love enjoying life with you.”
I stood there in my kitchen hugging this man that I married. I thought about his words while tears popped in my eyes.
Yes, I enjoy this life too. I enjoy being married to this man and mothering these children.
Oh, the days might get crazy and my heart rate may go up a time or two.
But I sincerely, completely, truly love enjoying this life with this man.
So often we think about enjoying life with our kids in this stage of motherhood. How often do we take a second to think about enjoying life with our spouse?
Have you spent some time lately thinking about how you are enjoying your life with your spouse? With the person that God placed in your life for such a time as this? The person with whom you can look at in the midst of daily struggles and triumphs and say with your whole heart, “I love enjoying life with you.”?
I thought about it that day and the thought has continued to burrow in my heart.
Each day, let’s remember to love enjoying this life with the spouse that God gave us.
Because one day, our children will move on and have lives of their own.
I want to embark on that season of life, the empty nest season, still loving and enjoying life with my spouse!
And, that enjoyment of life should start today.
